FEB.24 IS MEEK MILL DAY IN HOUSTON

The city of Houston has declared February 24th Meek Mill day. This much the Philly MC confirmed via an instagram post this weekend, sharing photos of the proclamation as well as his Saturday night performance at Houston's Revention Music Center. "Life is a rollercoaster," read the caption.
TMZ reports that the decision is motivated largely by the advocacy work Meek Mill has embarked on lately.
The 'Going bad' rapper was handed a 2-4 year sentence for parole violation on a conviction as far back as 10 years ago.The sentence was deemed unjust and sparked a wide-spread criticism of the american justice system that led to a nationwide protest. After his release in April last year, Meek has used his platform to pursue criminal justice reform.
During his stop at Houston where he was honoured, Meek talked to a group of boys in the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. He spoke about his life struggles and encouraged the group to make the right choices.
"I wanted to be the smart kid who makes all the right decisions," Meek said. "If you want to go to the penitentiary and live that life, do that. But if you want to be somebody and you don’t want to fall victim to that, because we’ve got millions of people who look like us that have done that already, then listen to the voice and make the right choices at the right time."
The rapper is currently on his Motivation tour.
